Ch. ANU-UJIN: “Myself and my parallel universes 2″

"Myself and my parallel universes" exhibition - Installation view

Exhibition dates: November 16 – 23, 2009

The gallery is enclosed in darkness, and one’s ears are confronted by an eerie music. Two nurses are carrying something on stretchers from one corner of the room to the other, which adds to the atmosphere of uncertainty. The strange figures depicted on the fluorescent paintings on the wall, which are only visible under black lights, are beyond this world.

This is Anu-Ujin’s universe. This time around she has tried many different mediums to illustrate these universes – paintings, black lights, video art, performance art (the nurses have turned out to be carrying apples from one corner to the other and connecting them to an elaborate setup – a ritual emphasizing the curing quality of art).

Anu-Ujin (her real name is Gerelchimeg), born in 1979, has graduated from the Institute of Fine arts in 2005 with an art major. She is a member of the “Blue sun” contemporary art center.

BATZORIG Dugarsuren & BATKHOLBOO Dugarsuren: “Line”

September 29 – October 10, 2006
Opening reception: September 29, 2006 at 5 p.m

XanaduART gallery is pleased to present a joint exhibition by brothers Batzorig Dugarsuren and Batkholboo Dugarsuren entitled “Line”. The exhibition showcases abstract paintings by Batzorig and sculptures by Batkholboo. Both artists have graduated from the Institute of Fine Arts, Ulaanbaatar.

In his works “Red cross”, “Exodus” and “Puzzle”, Batzorig has highlighted the traditional symbolism of wooden puzzles, an important part of nomadic way of thinking. The use of such traditional symbols is contrasted with Batzorig’s highly abstract style. In comparison, Batkholboo also deals with traditional motifs in his work: he chose to display an abstract sculpture entitled “Shaman” as well as various sculptures of horses and people in traditional clothing. Thus, the two artists have created a fusion of tradition and modernity, a “Line” connecting the old and the new.

B. ENKHBAT: “Hidden universe” exhibition

September 15 – 27, 2006
Opening reception: September 15, 2006 at 5 p.m.

XanaduART gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition by B. Enkhbat entitled “Hidden universe”. Enkhbat’s work is an interesting combination of Mongolian traditional paintings and installation pieces united under the collective theme of shamanism. The artist has spent considerable time researching the topic and has endeavored to depict his own vision of the shamanist ritual through his work. The name of the exhibition, “Hidden universe”, implies that we may not know much about the universe of hidden meanings that is shamanism. Mongolian painting, which was widely influenced by traditional Buddhist art, maybe considered a controversial medium for the subject, yet Enkhbat succeeds in imbuing his exhibition with a mysterious quality worthy of his subject.

B. Enkhbat was born in 1981 and graduated from the Institute of Fine Arts with a traditional Mongolian painting major in 2004. He has participated in most major student exhibitions, including “Student autumn” of 2003 and “Mongol look” of 2004.
